Red Dwarf

This is another one of those television shows I cannot say enough good things about! It's a story of a man named Brady.. no wait.. it's an epic tale of the last human in the universe. David Lister, a 3rd Technician aboard the mining ship Red Dwarf. He snuck a cat onboard which is against policy and the ship's captain finds out about it when Lister has photographs of him and his cat developed in the ship's lab. Lister is given a choice, to either turn over the cat which will then be used in the ship's lab for experiments, or to spend the next 18 months of the mission in a "Zero entropy chamber" where time will effectively stand still for him. He refuses to tell them where he keeps the cat so they put him in the Zero entropy chamber.

As soon as the door closes, it opens again, and Holly, the ship's computer, tells Dave he's free to go. Then he informs him that everyone aboard the ship is dead, have been for over a million years. Due to a improperly sealed drive plate there was a radiation leak which killed the entire crew... and Holly could not let Lister out till the radiation levels returned to normal.

In order to keep Lister from going mad, Holly brings Rimmer, Lister's old bunkmate, back as a hologram. Then they discover that Lister's cat didn't die from the radiation, had her kittens and they kept breeding and breeding for millions of years to the point that they evolved into a humanoid race. The last cat alive makes it to the inner part of the ship where he meets up with Lister, whom the cat people revered as their God.

This crew comes across a derelict spaceship where they meet up with Kryten, a janitor mechanoid who's the last one alive on board his ship. He joins Red Dwarf as they travel through space and encounter all sorts of strange phenomena. Psy-moons, White holes, Gestalt entities, Genetically Engineered Life Forms, Time travel, mind swapping just to name a few.

There are so many reasons I love this show. Lister is the last human in the universe, sometimes I feel like I can identify with that, but there's just something about that entire premis that gives me a strong feeling of security. Every single plot device has to do with theoretical physics, or is somehow related to it.. being that theoretical physics is one of my fav subjects I really go for these plot devices! :) The cat is too cool!
