Joel Robinson

Joel RobinsonJoel might not be too different from you or me but that little bit of difference sure goes a long way. There is a certain innocence to his way, people really seem to go nuts over it. His wholesome brand of humor is embraced by many as one of the most fresh and entertaining styles of comedy.

In the Joel era of MST 3K, the show took on more of a personal feel. Tom and Crow were Joel's creations, in real life and on the show so there was a real paternal bond between them. Whether this father-son relationship existed only in the viewers head or if it was an actual sense that the actors were trying to convey, most people would agree that Joel, Tom, Gypsy, Crow and even Magic Voice seemed more like a family than a group of characters.

Joel left the Satellite of love in Episode #512 Mitchell. It was all based on a misunderstanding when Gypsy overheard the mads talking about getting rid of "him" which she took to mean Joel (Actually they were talking about Mike) so she knocks him out, sticks him in an escape pod and sends him back to earth. Joel must have had a premonition because he left a placard with a few last words for the bots. It read:

To all on the Satellite of Love from Joel:

"The world is a circus if you look at it the right way. Every time you pick up a handful of dust, and see not the dust but mystery, a marvel, there in your hand. Every time you stop and think, "I'm alive. And being alive is fantastic." Every time such a thing happens, you are part of the circus of Dr. Lao..."

Thank you, Joel, for 5 years of a very special, very cool show. I hope the Australian outback is treating you well.
