How do I stop that pesky builder-killer

the builder killer is a pilltake using two or more pills to take down one pill. you don't have to swerve off the enemy pill and can shoot any lgm sent in to rebuild. it's fast, effective and can be difficult to counter.

any of the pilltakes that involve 2 or more blocks can be used for a bldr klr but the most common takes utilised are the bent dipper|triple berf, the sneaky bastard and sometimes the crafty bastard. a phallus can be used but the angle for killing the lgm is poor and a rebuild is almost guaranteed.

several tactics can be employed to counter, depending on the skill and availability of resources of the defender :

#1 heat up a nearby pill and stop the pick up - have your gunsights resting on your dead pill so if he does try to pick up you just need to drive forward slightly to have his pill shoot him, in addition to your shots and pills.

#2 plant a pill to throw the attacker off the take - you should plant, heat and try to get the opponents lgm on rebuild. committing a pill is probably my least favourite methods of countering. it does have the advantage of making his two pill placement relatively worthless without building to block this pill's fire. an ideal opportunity to snag an lgm.

#3 if you see the take being set up simply pump 4-5 shots into your pill and rebuild it - it is now hot enough to burn through both blocking pills and push the attacker off your x'd pill. you must still be carefull sneaking your lgm in to rebuild but you also have a fair chance at killing the opponents. i reccomend coming in at an angle that fires through the forward pill and landing on the rear x'd pill, maximising your chances of killing an lgm. this is my preferred tactic. least commitment of resources and greatest chances of turning the tables on your opponent.

#4 study which bldr klr your opponent prefers to employ - shoot at the square where the second pill generally goes. if you get the lgm heat your pill and rebuild. if the opponent tries to pick up his x'd pill your hot pill will burn through his blocking pill, making your subsquent take easier.

#5 this generally only works on tarmac, *maybe* on grass but i would hesitate to use it. if you arrive just seconds before the pill take starts, you have no pills on board (*tut* *tut* *tut*) and no pills around to heat up. you really only have two options. a) wait for the pickup and try to kill him or b) run in and pick up your pill and hopefully the first blocking pill. if you time this right you can have your pill and the first blocking pill x each other without the rear pill taking a shot. a little insouciant move that really unnerves the opposition.

Yes, this is a beautiful, beautiful move that's not being given the credit it deserves! You can use it against ANY pill take as long as you have tarmac. Why, I remember the first time I did it, on Porkfeast V (is that the right map name?). Ah, it was grand. Anyway, my point is this: In a pill kiss take (..Pp..) this works best, but it also works on many others. The basic idea is to drive in, insouciantly as Mr. Keogh so sesquipedalianistically put it, so that your own presence causes the enemy pill to shoot at you, hitting your pill instead of you, and killing your pill faster, so both pills die at the same time. If you do it right you just drive in, pick up the pills, and drive off while the other guy is still baffled as to how it happened. On that Porkfeast V game I did it the first time on a whim (had no ammo or man) and it worked, so I did it 5 minutes later and the opponent was still like "huh?" and he didn't know what to do til I tried it a third time, then he finally responded (by running after me and shooting at my tank, which is the only response you can have).

I'd like to add 3 other responses:

Tank Fun: A while back someone posted a wonderful movie of a tank pirouetting about a deep sea pill. It was some great tank maneuvering. I think it's important to realize that a tank is just as powerful a weapon as a pill. Don't rely on always having a pill. So if you arrive and the enemy has downed your pill and you have no pill on hand, just attack him as he goes for the grab. Get him between his pill and you. If you're not up to that, and the take has just recently ended (so his pill is only moderately warm), just charge in and pick up your pill. You'll take a beating but if you're able to dodge well (as in that movie) you'll know how angry a pill can be while you're still able to get up close to it.

Be Patient!: There's no hurry. Just sit there and stare at the enemy. Position yourself so he has to come in between you and his pill. If you both wait long enough his pills cool down and you just drive in and pick up the pill. (If he heats them back up, then you wait some more.) If he goes for the grab, you shoot his pill as he comes in, then shoot him, and using his pill's fire and your own you kill him. Basically, just remember there's no hurry. There's no reason to rebuild now. Later is always better when it comes to heated pills. If you just twiddle your thumbs long enough he will get impatient and screw up.

And finally, my favorite: Get behind them! If you see them setting it up, or suspect they will, come at them from a wide angle so you end up behind them on the take. Get in range of their pills directly behind their tank. WHAM! They get hit by their own pill (which is mega mad), their middle pill kills their back pill, and you're left only having to put in a few shots to finish up their last pill and pick them all up. This requires a bit of foresight to figure out where they'll be, but it works best of all.
